  STICKER PROGRAM - The cost for disposal of white goods such as appliances, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters, dish washers, metal files, metal cabinets and desks, lawn mowers (must remove gas tank) are $10.00. The white goods sticker will be red and separate from the regular $1.00 green sticker. The $1.00 green sticker will still be used for large/bulk items such as: Wood, (not over 3-4ft in length) put in barrel or bundled and tied, rugs (bundled or tied), mattress/box spring, furniture, microwaves, etc.

ANYTHING OTHER THAN WEEKLY HOUSEHOLD TRASH WILL REQUIRE A STICKER.

Tires, TV's, and Computers will NOT be taken.

Residents may dispose of one sticker item each week by 7am on their regular pickup day. To arrange pickup of white goods, please call the number printed on the red sticker (1-800-323-4285) Green stickers may be purchased at Stop & Shop, Eastern Banks, Saugus Credit Union, the Senior Center, and Town Hall. Red stickers will be sold at Town Hall and Stop & Shop only. If a holiday falls during the week, rubbish and recycling will be delayed for one day the remainder of the week. COMPOSTING FACILITY - Leaf and yard/garden waste may be disposed of at the town composting facility located at rear of 515 Main St. (formerly the town dump). The waste must be dumped from open containers or contained in paper composting bags. NO plastic bags. The composting facility will be open every Saturday from 8:00am to 3:00pm, starting date to be announced, until the first snow. Leaves and yard waste will not be picked up by the regular trash company unless on specified weeks.

LEAF PICKUP WEEKS - Leaf pickup will be the week to be announced. Leaves will be picked up on your regular rubbish pickup day and must be out by 7am. Leaves must be in composting bags (no limit) or open barrels only. PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTABLE.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DAY to be announced. You must pre-register by calling 231-4115. Tires, propane tanks, TV's and Computers will also be collected for an additional fee.

MERCURY COLLECTION - We will be exchanging Mercury Thermometers for Flexible Standard-Tip Digital Thermometers and collecting Thermostats and Mercury Switches.

CURBSIDE RECYCLING - J.R.M. Hauling and Recycling Services, Inc. of Gloucester, MA is the contractor for the curbside recycling program for the Town of Saugus.
Recyclable materials to be collected are:

  • Paper: Newspaper, magazines, mixed paper, cardboard (2ft x 2ft flattened), and paper board, (tied please) or put in paper bags.
  • Plastic: All plastics labeled 1,2,3,4,5,6, or 7
  • Glass: Glass bottles and jars, all colors and sizes.
  • Metal: Deposit and non-deposit beverage cans, metal food cans (rinsed) and empty aerosol cans.
  • Aseptic: Coated milk and juice cartons, drink boxes (rinsed).
