ACTIVITIES FOR SUMMER 2002
 
     
  ANNUAL FISHING DERBY

SUNDAY JUNE 30TH, 2002, 10:00AM TO NOON, LOCATION: CAMP NIHAN, COST: FREE

There will be different age divisions and prizes for the largest fish, smallest fish, the most fish caught and more. Come join us and fish the morning away. Snacks will be provided. Sponsored by the Saugus Youth & Recreation Dept & the MDC.

Summer Concert Series at the Saugus Ironworks

The Saugus Youth & Recreation Department and the Saugus Ironworks invite you to join them for a summer full of music! Every Wednesday night, weather permitting, from July 10th through
August 14th, 7:00PM until 9:00PM.

  • July 17th: Saugus High School Marching Band
  • July 25th: Charles River Wind Ensemble
  • July 31st: Ruth Harcovitz
  • August 7th: Jumpin’ Juba
  • August 14th: Funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council: Quintessential Brass
 
Summer Teen Challenge: Full-Day Program for 2 weeks Cost $100

Children entering the 7th grade through children entering the 9th grade in the fall of 2002.This program is designed for those older children that need more activities than the general Parks Program. The Teen Challenge program gives these children more of a structured program geared toward their age group.

There will be 3 sessions this year: Session #1 runs July 8th through July 19th (not available), Session #2 runs July 22nd through August 2nd, Session #3 runs August 5th through August 16th.
Each child must bring a lunch with them everyday.

If you are interested in going to more than one session please let us know and if there are openings we will try to accommodate. The teens must be dropped off at the Youth & Recreation office at 8:30AM and then picked up at 4:00PM. There are no busses for this program.

The Summer Teen Challenge Program will be structured as follows:

  • Mondays: Morning - Community Service: park clean up, yard work for the elderly, painting, etc. Afternoon - Organized Activities, Beach, Movies, Miniature Golf, etc.
  • Tuesdays: Fun Day - Field trips to Six Flags, Water Country (participants must attend Monday to participate on Tuesday)
  • Wednesdays: Morning - Community Service: Town clean-up, graffiti removal, planting trees or flowers, etc. Afternoon - Organized Activities, Beach, Movies, Miniature Golf, etc.
  • Thursday: Life Experience Day - Visiting the Middlesex Prison, My Brother’s Table, Boston Aids Clinic, etc.
  • Friday: Adventure Day - Field Trips to George’s Island, Kayaking, Paintball, etc. (participants must attend Thursday to be able to attend trips on Friday)
